VACANCY VACANCY VACANCY: FIRST SET OF STONE THROWERS WANTED, PLEASE APPLY IN PERSONS!


When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her."- John 8:7(NIV)

The woman was guilty. Useless woman. Why would she leave her husband and be messing around with other men? And this am sure was not her first time of doing this. I said it that one day ‘her sins will find her out’. She may have been doing this and has been going scot free. But not today. She has been caught red-handed. Serves her right. She can’t even deny it. The evidence was all over. (Though am only wondering if she was committing adultery with herself because nobody talked about the man she was caught with; he may even be among the men standing there that day, anyway we will talk about that on another day)

The law was that she be stoned. It’s a clear case. No arguments. Those who were to stone her were around. The stones were also available. Everything was set. On your marks…set…ready…But hold it! Jesus released a bomb! Gbagam!!!

Please don’t misunderstand Jesus. He did not say you should not stone the guilty filthy dirty woman to death. But the requirement is that those who will stone her should ONLY be those who ARE WITHOUT SIN. So? Search yourself first, then go ahead and stone her.

That was where the show ended. Silence everywhere. Stones were dropping but no longer on the woman’s head but on the bare floor. They dropped their stones and left one after another.
Apart from GRACE which was at work and spoke on behalf of that woman, I also saw something else that worked that day- I saw that Jesus APPEALED TO THEIR CONSCIENCES and it pricked them hardly. He aroused the voices of their consciences and helped them ask themselves some crucial and critical questions. He helped them do some soul-searching exercises.

And that is it- whatever you do in life, let your conscience guide you. Even when you feel you are right and they are wrong- let your conscience guide you. I know you have all the facts with you that will nail people – but still let your conscience guide you. I know you are not guilty in that particular area where THEY are guilty but please use your conscience. I know their case file is on your table and you have the final say, but Sir, let your conscience guide you.

By God’s grace you are so connected to the powers that be to the extent that whatever you say or recommend about other people will be accepted, but hey Madam, check yourself before you recommend that they should be dealt with. What if God (or any other judge) turns around to begin judgement from the side where you are damn guilty? How free will you be? Will you still say as you have always said- ‘go ahead and kill all of them, go ahead and sack all of them, go ahead and finish all of them?’ Let your conscience guide you.

Except your conscience has been seared with a hot iron and is no more alive. If not, how do you sleep at night after destroying people's marriages? How do you still manage to smile at the funeral of the person you contributed to his death? How do you manage to breathe well each time you see some persons?

‘For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you’- Matt 7:2

Hey ‘Mr. Primary One Class Recorder of Names of Noise Makers’, please tell me the verse where it is written that ‘thou shalt say everything thou seeth’? You walk around like Detective from Heaven looking for who to expose, searching out the weaknesses of people and ensuring they are adequately reported to the right quarters and dealt with accordingly. Well-done o. But just one question- Why does it give you joy to see people in pain and tears? Why do you enjoy it when people are disgraced instead of being corrected in love? Which school gave you that PhD- ‘Pull Him Down’?

Are you sure the author of this post is not trying to encourage sin? No sir! But excuse me sir, did Jesus even know that that woman was guilty and ‘caught in the very act’? Or is the Son of God now condoning and compromising sin? Has He started giving people leverage to live anyhow and still escape the punishment? I strongly believe that Jesus as God Himself even saw the woman before men caught her. Believe me. By the way have you forgotten how He saw Nathaniel under fig tree? Yet, He introduced and taught us another angle to life- Search your motives. Are you taking that action or making that report so that someone will be corrected or crucified? Let your conscience guide you.

There is God in heaven. He is watching. He is the ultimate and only true Judge. But whenever you have an opportunity once in a while to be a small god here on earth, please first pause, search yourself, check your motives, use your conscience before you throw that STONE of judgement.

So who is ready to throw the first stone against all offenders, please raise your hand! May God have mercy on us!
